ROUGH TRANSMISSION SHIFT 2003 FORD RANGER EDGE Sign In

I purchase this 2003 Automatic Ford Ranger Edge with bad transmission, the problem was that it did not shift gears after the second gear. The mechanic said that it was the valve body so he removed it and change a couple valves, after he did that job, the transmission works but when the transmission shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd it shifts rough, also sometimes when the transmission shifts from 3rd to 2nt it make it rough. The mechanic told me that there is nothing else to do. Can somebody help me with this? is this true?

Re: ROUGH TRANSMISSION SHIFT 2003 FORD RANGER EDGE Sign In

If this is all true that the valve body had some flaw or problem that really did allow it to shift at all it still smells of a bad transmission.

Was this a warranty job? If so, take it back again - it's not right. Vehicle was not intended to be rough shifting however there used to be kits to make them shift sharply and abruptly on purpose for specific reasons - usually for performance purposes that most people wouldn't want for street use.

That was nick-named a shift kit, or Trick Shift kit. I've driven a couple of those and they are abrupt with about no smooth transition between gears. That has the ability to quicken your 1/4 mile race track time. IDK if they make them for many different transmissions at all.

Non OE parts could have an adverse effect as well. Trans folks should know which is good or not.

If warranty especially and they now say everything possible is now right and it isn't I'd get a written second opinion (that's at your expense) that it's NOT correct for that vehicle and go back,

T
