Anyway,can you tell/isolate where the sound seems to be coming from? Front,engine area,rear,dash area? I know its probably hard to tell at 40 mph....can you better describe the sound? Does it seem to be affected by vehicle speed? in other words increase with speed,decrease on deceleration..? Try tapping parts with a rubber hammer, jockey system at tailpipe it might show up with something like that?? Possibly the wear indicator on the brake pads sounding off. That sound will go away with brakes applied. Just a thought.
