Nissan Serena Faulty Automatic Transmission or MAF Sensor? Please help me with the cause and troubleshooting. Sign In

i got automatic nissan serena 2002, the problem is, it doesnt shift smoothly. When I put the lever to D or R, it does not move immediately. It also over rev before shifting to 2nd or 3rd and it moves very hard at low gear specially uphill, it also take a post before shifting. And the worst part every time I stop at intersection, when step on the pedal it doesnt move just like the gear changed to neutral, it also happens when i slow down on turns.

I just changed the fluid 3 weeks ago, levels are good.

My mechanic says, it's a faulty MAF Sensor. I just need a clever opinion before changing anything because I just found out that my auto man is trying to rip me off by contacting the parts dealer.

Sorry for the bad english, lol

If you think your mechanic is shady, I'd be taking it to a different shop. If the MAF is bad enough to cause a misfire, the transmission won't shift right but the symptoms you are describing are that of a trans about to blow out. Can you get the codes scanned and post them here for us? This thing is definately pulling codes if its driving like this. Nissan doesn't sell this car here in the US, so getting specific technical data on this for you isn't something we have access to, but we could try to get you in the right direction.

Your english is quite passable and I had no trouble understanding your post. We do get plenty of people who just confuse us. You're doing fine.

Tnx Nickwarner, i'll keep u posted. I'll post the scan result as soon as I get them.

At first, I was suspecting that my A/T have the issue. However, the mech says my tranny is good.

Are there any possible cause?

There are tons of possible causes. Thats why I need the codes. Might want to swing by a transmission shop and let them check it out for a second opinion.
