Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner 4cyl with a manual transmission. I have around 112,000 miles. I have noticed for a few weeks now that there seems to be an excessive amount of vibration in my gear shifter. It is a rough feeling as if it rubbing against something. I can also feel a similar feeling in my gas pedal (Are the two connected in any way?). I decided to get under the truck to see if I could find any signs of contributing problems. I was able to get a picture of where the gear shifter (I guess) mates into the transmission. There seem to be some sort of oil like sludge in the area. What is this and could it be my problem? Once I figure out how to post pictures, I will add them to help with this problem solving.

You most likely have worn out motor mounts. They insulate the engine vibration from the chassis through rubber supports. When the rubber deteriorates, they don't insulate as well.

Thanks for your input. I located all three motor mounts yesterday. I am going to have someone check them out.

They may not appear torn or broken but can still cause the vibration. One trick we use sometimes to determine this is to use a floor jack with a block of wood under the oil pan and while someone else sits in the car with the engine idling in drive and feeling the vibration, you slowly jack it just enough to take a little weight off the engine and see if the vibration goes away.

Re: Manual transmission with excessive vibration in gear shifter Sign In

hey check this out, I was reading some other post on other sites from Tacoma owners with the same problems and this is what I found when I went back under to take another look. http://img808.imageshack.us/...8/777/driveshaft.jpg

This is a picture of my drive shaft and it looks like the bearings are unseated. How much vibration do you think this would cause?
