Is the transmission being lubricated while in neutral with the engine running? I have a 1991 Hyundai Excel --still in great condition-- and think this has something to do with if the pump is run off the engine flywheel. I often roll the car backwards in neutral into a parking space.

You don't say whether it's a manual or auto trans but it really doesn't matter. Rolling it around in neutral won't hurt anything, engine running or not.
