1998 Ford Taurus (automatic) 200,000 km I am trying to change gears into drive, nothing happens. The engion is engaged, but when I push the gas nothing happens, except the RMP goes up. Reverse, Overdrive, Drive will not work However the vehical will change from park to neutral. it will not engage the any of the gears.

Check the fluid level is about all you can do yourself. If that is OK, head to a transmission shop for diagnosis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

check the level with the engine off and check it with the engine running if the level doesn't change you more then likely have pump issue and the tranny will have to come out and partially torn apart or fully re-built.

Also inspect your shift linkage at the transaxle. Have someone go through the gears while you watch for the shift shaft on the transaxle move. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
