Dodge Stratus 2001 RT Shift Solenoids? HELP ME Plee Sign In

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus RT 3.0L V6 no overdrive. It is automatic trans but has the fake manual thingy as well (can't think what it's called...auto stick or somthin).
I just bought it recently and it was running great. About 150,000 miles, a bit much but the engine runs great. Anyway the other day the transmission seemed to be slipping. Just 1st, would rev but wouldn't catch for a second and then boom it'll catch. Running like Sh!t. Reverse is all but gone as well as first. When I use the auto stick, if I start it in second it is somewhat drivable but I parked it in fear of doing more damage. Had the codes read and they came back as bad shift solenoids. I thought it'd be an easy fix but apparently the solenoids are in the pan. Calling around to local shops I've found that they either want to overcharge the hell out of me, or tell me that it's an easy job they don't have time for (couple of trans shops). Best price I got was 500 bucks. I'm pretty broke be it that I'm a college student and was thinking about fixing it myself. A FEW QUICK QUESTIONS: I worked in a lube shop for few years and can turn a wrench, but the word transmission strikes fear into my heart. Is this something I could rock out myself? If so, I'm having a hell of a time tracking down the parts. Does anyone have any good part sites to visit? Researching online I've come to the conclusion that it is a mitsubishi eclipse spider transmission. Is this assumption correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bud

I find it pretty odd that you would immediately accuse a shop of overcharging you when by your own admission, you have no idea what is involved in the problem.

You worked in a lube shop for years........ You should be qualified to dive right into that computer operated automatic transmission.

I say overcharge because of the research I've done on the problem. Apparently it is a no brainer that should just be a couple hours labor. Also, some of the shops I've talked to want to charge me for reading the codes which I've already done. I guess I can see their point, they want to make sure that's the problem, but I'm not going to pay $50(average) to $90(dealership) bucks for something I had done for free already. Thank you though for your criticism and your support. I'll be diving right in as soon as I can find the part.
