A few weeks ago we started noticing that the little circle around the P would not engage, we could swiths to the other gears. if I would swing the shifter back over the gears occasionally i can get the park to angage, however it seems to be getting worse. This seems to be an electronic issue of some sort. maybe the switch on the tree is going bad.
What part might i replace? or could this be something worse.
Dadge ram 2500 van 2001.

Is the shifter lever actually going into the park position, but the indicator says otherwise? If the lever goes into the park position, you shouldn't be able to move the van. If the indicator isn't showing park, but your actually in park, you need to check out the indicator cable and components.
