Did a flatbed tow damage my transmission?

Hi! I have a 1980 GMC Suburban 4X4 W/400 CI and with most likely a TH400 Transmission.
I owned the car for two years and it has 112k original miles.
Problem.
I had a flat and was towed off the Highway.
I had the flat fixed but the transmission began to slip within 25mi in all gears.
Within another 10mi the transmission is dead.
I did not pay close attention to everything the tow operator did when he pulled it onto the flat bed.
Is this transmission problem and the tow a coincidence and, if not, what is damaged and how could it be caused.

It wasn't the tow truck that caused that. Check the fluid level and the condition of the fluid. If it's not low on fluid, then it's just worn out.

You need to get it looked at by a trans shop as soon as possible. If you continue to drive it while slipping, you'll do a lot more damage than you have already. If the fluid is still clean and red, it may be a minor issue.

Hi Hammer. Thank you.
If having it pulled up on a flatbed in park or drive couldn't hurt anything then I don't have a clue what bit might be busted.
I made some inquiries and the only hope I was given was that the screen might be plugged but it is a consistant problem hot or cold, sitting for long periods or not.

I didn't say dragging it in park won't hurt anything. It just won't cause a slipping problem. Most of the time it's harmless to do that because the tires don't have enough traction to break anything. If anything were to break, it would be the "Park" gear so it would roll in park but that didn't happen.

I don't suggest you try anything more than changing the oil and filter yourself. Beyond that, you have to know what your doing or you can really mess things up.
If you actually have a plugged filter, there will usually be a suction noise associated with it.
