6 cyl 3.8 liter Two Wheel Drive Automatic 190000 miles

Hello. There is a one noticable sound when the car is shifted from Park to any gear(including N). It sounds like a combination of a "crack" and "thump". The same expereienced sound when moving from any gear(and N) to Park. I have maintained it well. I have changed the trans filter and oil twice - about a thousand miles ago and about a hundred thousand ago. The hot trans fuild level i s right in the middle of the normal operating range. I supect it is some type of backlash in the trans. Is that right? and is it serious and does it need attention???? and if so, how do I fix it.
