Clutch wont engage when starting.. Login - Sign Up

Hi everyone!

My problem is with my '94 Ford Ranger (manual). When I push on the clutch, the break pedal follows the clutch, like there is a loose screw holding them in place, so the clutch can't fully touch the floor. When starting it, I have to reach down and hold the break up with my hand while pushing on the clutch, then turn the key.

It was a really cold morning yesterday and stalled in morning traffic-- it was a nightmare! Has anyone heard of anything like this or have any ideas on how to fix it?

WELL ISN'T THAT SPECIAL!!Crazy Never heard of that one. Does this do the same with normal shifting? Only when starting for some reason??

Either way you have to get right under there and look right at where they mount and pivot to see just what's going on there.

Good luck with that one,

T

No, it does not happen during normal shifting. What I mean is the clutch will engage when I drive, but it will not go far enough to the floor to start it. It's almost like what ever the two pedals are hooked onto is not stable, but moves. I have looked underneath but did not see anything. I will check again in a little while.

Whatever they are pivoting on is not stable as you said. This can't wait! That should be a very strong support under there where they mount. Sometimes you do have to screw around with them for switches for brakes and the clutch switch too - if they were ever replaced that could be a problem,
