Can a faulty "Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS)" cause transmission slippage? Sign In

I have a 2003 chevy caprice (we have it here). Whenever i accelerate the car takes time (like 2-3 secs) to shift into gear. Once it does, it doesn't jump...it just sorta drags itself into speed... sorta gradually picks up speed. So, when i accelerate hard, the engine revs up really high before shifting into gear. Basically, the rpm and the gear shifting is not in sync.

I took it to a mechanic and he hooked it up to the computer. One of the problems that showed on the computer was "Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS) current error" . Could this be what is causing this transmission problem that i am having?

Also, another problem im having is pushing in the gear shifer button. It's REALLY hard to push it in especially from "park". Actually, i have never successeded in pushing it in by force. I always stop pushing cz i feel any more pressure might break something. So i just shift the gear by force. Does the PCS have anything to do with this?

GM doesn't sell that vehicle here in the states anymore, so no service information is available to us. A PCS can cause those problems. It should be checked out to see what is causing the code to show up.

The downside of this is you may have burned up some of your friction clutches because of the slippage. More than likely the transmission should come apart and have clutches inspected and/or replaced.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
