Automatic transmission fluid question Sign In

Hi everyone, I own a Kia magentis (optima) 2.7 with a 5 speed automatic transmission and 96.500Kms (60k miles) , the manual recommends ATF SPiii type HK for the replacement but since I´m not in the US I would need to import it and that would be costly. My question is , would Kixx ATF Multi work well? I read the etiquete and it supports spii and spiii among others. Thank you

Re: Automatic transmission fluid question Sign In

I wouldn't do it.

There is really no such thing as real universal fluid type.

Manufacturers are designing fluid that is compatible with the engineering they are building into their various transmission systems and using the wrong fluid can end up doing severe damage to the transmission and any manufacturer's warranty will be voided.

Just for listed routine maintenance? It's an expected time, miles wise if this car is in great shape pay for the exact correct product as Hammer Time suggested also.

You didn't say age or model year, type of driving IDK if a dipstick or just a tube and plug for it but if you can look at a drop or two on white paper, smell it is good have some time/kms/miles to do it right.

Exact stuff worth it and have plenty the 2nd opinion for the question. All care not over or underfilled whatever it takes,
Tom

Re: Automatic transmission fluid question Sign In

That's true the year is 2008 the exact model is the one listed above (Kia magentis 2.7) although in some places it is also known as Kia optima . I use it for daily driver but I don't go out as much so I made only 3000km in 6 months so I guess it is average use. Today I had the oil changed and the mechanic checked the transmission fluid, he said it is in proper levels but the color is bad and it smells so that's why I want to change it as soon as possible.

I understand , do you happen to know what might be the difference between ATF SPiii and ATF SPiii Type HK? The only brand that makes the HK is idemitsu and luckily it is listen in Amazon

No, I'm not a chemist.

I just know I have seen some very expensive repairs caused by using the wrong fluid.
