99 Mazda slams in and out of overdrive Sign In

This Mazda 626 with 156000 miles sat-up for about 5 months without being started or driven. Tranny fluid leaked very low. We added 2 quarts.

At speeds above 40 MPH, the car revs up anywhere from 3500 RPM to 5500 RPM and the tranny slams into and out of gear and sounds as if it's going to jump completely out of the car. It feels as if you put the car in neutral, reved the engine and then pulled it back into drive.

It was doing none of this when it was parked over 5 months ago. Someone told us that there was a shift solenoid that is an external screw in that gets stuck when Mazdas are let set-up for extended periods of time.

Please, anyone have any experience with this, and what was the fix?
