'99 Chevy Blazer rear end/ trany trouble Sign In

i got a '99 Chevy Blazer S10 LT its got about 145k on it and recently it craped out on me on the highway. it sounded like loud scraping and metal on metal grinding, i came to a stop and was able to get it to move to the otherside of the road ( it wasnt pretty). if the engine is on and in park it sounds normal, even when i shift into drive still normal but as soon as i step on the gas you hear the sounds and it moves but its crippled. when the tow truck came he put it into neutral and wenched it on the trailer, during that i could see the rear wheels locking and relaseing over and over. he seem to think it was the rear end but i got it home and took the read diff cap off drained the fulid and could not see anything wrong. Is there something i could have missed? i didnt see any shavings or busted teeth. my U joints seem fine as well as the drive shaft, and thats what leads me to believe its the trany, but everyone i talk to says it sounds like the rear end. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Sounds like the differential broke some gears and they are jamming as the ring gear turns. Your better get it apart soon before it takes out the housing too.
