98 civic 2-3 flare up, except w/ hard acceleration

My trans in my 150k mile LX slips a little on the 1-2 shift until it warms up a little. Then the 1-2 is fine. The 2-3 shift is great under hard acceleration, but flares up considerably under light and medium throttle at all temps. Downshifts are hard. At first, I just noticed the 2-3 flare up and thought the clutch was gone. When I realized that it shifted well under heavier throttle, I was convinced that the clutch still had the ability to hold and that there was perhaps a pressure problem. Is there a pressure control solenoid like the pwm in other transmissions? Maybe shift solenoid problem? No codes set.I used to be an ASE certified rebuilder quite a few years ago and will rebuild this pig, if necessary. Just seems like all the gears are there, at on time or another. Must be a control problem. Was surprised to find no codes set. Thanks for help.
