1998 Mazda Protege 150,000 miles Please excuse the fact that I am NOT a mechanical guy. Normally I'd take this to a shop but I've got terminal cancer and all our money is going to chemo treatments and medical bills now. The RPMs have started going through the roof for what seems to be no reason. It's hitting 5,000 and 6,000. Help? I'm a mostly carbon-based life-form. More (though I don't know why you'd want it) at http://www.judasforgiven.com

With a helper pressing gas pedal, look at the motion at throttle body for what moves as I think this would use a cable. It should return or if you can persuade it to return more than if a cable (can't be sure) then it might be sticky, frayed inside or some fault. Didn't think this engine or many if any of the year would allow 6,000 RPM - presumably with no load! Don't let it do that as that can blow up the engine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Keep up the fight on CA! If an approach isn't working rattle cages for something that will. Click on my name and an option for a private message will show lower right, T
