98 Chevy Lumina (AutoTrans) wont move while in the Drive Gear. I have to shift down to '1' then up to '2', then at 20 MPH i can shift to 'D' and it will work fine until i slow down below 20 MPH. My Trans Fluid is FULL. If its not the fluid, what could the problem be? (BTW it happened suddenley, i parked for a minute one day, and then when i was ready to go, it was gone.) Thankyou!

Have the engine controller scanned for trouble codes. Is the engine revving up but it isn't moving or does it feel like it is taking off in 3rd gear?

Yeah the engine is revving but wont move unless i shift up to Drive from the lower gears when moving. Its just strange how it was working fine one day and then 5 minutes later it was totally gone.

Sorry im kind of a newb when it comes to cars, should i take it to a shop an just ask to have the engine controller scanned?

Also, before i do that, any other common potential issues i should have in mind?

Thanks so much for the reply!!

Doesn't sound so good if the engine is revving and the transmission is slipping. The transmission may have to come apart for an overhaul. Transmission shop should be able to diagnose it and confirm.
