'97 VW Golf Will Not Go In Gear Sign In

1997
VW
Golf
2.0

I was replacing the starter on the car and was jacking up the car to support the motor when the jack slipped hitting some level on my manual transmission. I am posting a photo with the arrow being the spot the jack hit. It hit it hard causing it to pop out of the transmission some. Now it will not engage in any gear. I would like to know what parts those are and what could possible be wrong and maybe even how to fix it...Thanks so much.

It's really hard for me to see anything in that photo.... Maybe someone with some better eyes will jump in....

Just a quick question. Can you go thru the gears with the engine off or it locked with the engine off & on?

How does the clutch pedal feel?

If it doesn't feel like it's working you may jammed the clutch lever when the jack slipped.

The pedal feels like it is easier to push down and upon release it is doing nothing where it would normally catch. Feels more uh springy...yes I just made up a word. :D

Well, it sounds like you jammed you clutch lever, you can try the above procedure or if there is a lot of slack in the cable already, try to unjam the lever.

If neither works, it looks it will have to be R&R'd for repair............
