97 C1500 Transmission (wont go into 3rd gear)	Sign In

I have a 1997 Chevy C1500: 4.3L 262CI V6. 139807 miles. When driving it acts like it just goes into neutral instead of going into 3rd. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas?

More then likely you have a clutch pack gone. Check fluid condition is it red/orange with black grit in it and have a strong smell?. If so i would suspect direct drive clutch pack is gone.

Agree Z,

If known original at the age and miles and a "keeper" vehicle = you want the thing and it's worth it it's about the time and miles an overhaul would be a good idea IMO. Again IMO no matter how well you car for a trans it has a life and is wear item. Can they go 1/4 mil miles - yes but that's getting into very scary territory for me anyway.

Thread is from August. I don't know why it went unattended by someone till now??
