95 SHO 5 speed problems

Hey guys I have a 95 Ford Taurus SHO MTX5 manual transmission with 116,000 miles on it.I bought the car not running so I was unaware of the problem. When shifting from first gear to any other gear it grinds before going into gear. I am currently in the process of pulling the trans out. I just have to remove the sub frame and it should be out. Before I order the wrong part I would like to know if the grinding would be from worn clutch cable, worn clutch, or syncro's shot. Also when the car is running and in neutral it makes a slow grinding noise until I push the clutch in. What could that be? Thanks for the help
