94 Thunderbird "Trans Slippin I Think" Sign In

I bought a 94 ford thunderbird with the 4.6L 130K Miles for my little brother to get back and forth to work & school and I think the trans is going out this is what its doing. If you backing up and going forward once you put it in gear it takes a minute to catch, at first it only did it when you first put it in gear or if you were going from reverse to drive or drive to reverse now today when I drove it, it did the same but once you stop at a light or stop sign it hesitated for a couple seconds when you push the gas then it finally kicked in. Then my brother drove to walmart which is down the street after a few hours after I drove it he said its doing the samething but its hesitating alot longer than a couple seconds. So is this the trans? or could it be the trans or rear end??

I assume you have checked the fluid level and condition. If the fluid is full and not clean and pink in color, then you are probably looking at a new trans.

From what you describe it sure sounds like the tranny is going...... The correct way to fix this would be to rebuild the tranny....

If this was my ride and I was just using it to go to work & back, before all that work & $$$ I would drop the pan and put a new filter in it. There is a product called TransX. Basically snake oil in a can but it does have additives that will soften the seals and it sounds like you have a seal problem. I would put a qt of that in with the new fluid. This may help, do absolutely nothing or cause the tranny to go all the way out. It's a gamble that I have seen go both ways but you already need a tranny, so at worse it will just speed up the inevitable....

The only thing here is, if it does get it to start shifting good I wouldn't ever consider taking this car out of town. If he is going to want to take this car out on the road then the only option here would be to rebuild the tranny......
