93 Chevy 4x4 1500 rebuilt trans Sign In

Hello I had my 93 chevy 4x4 1500 transmission rebuilt it cost me 1200.00 A complete rebuild as I know of and the guy was highly recommended.. Just wanted to get some input here.. The truck has done great except for when I tow something and we arent talking nothing but a small trailor with a riding mower on it.. So what happens is the overdrive seems to take longer to shift like at 60 or 65 took back he replaced some sensor? Anyway truck has done fine towed today and same problem again called him up. He says bring it back.. So what could be causing this overdrive problem on a complete rebuilt trans???? He is saying he is going to try a new casing? Or maybe a new valve body?? Any ideas would be great here.. Also when I got this rebuilt he didnt suggest a trans cooler for no more weight than I would be towing...Also the guy I bought this truck from had the same problem.. It had a warranty on his trans rebuild but they would not stand by it when I had it rebuilt I found out why.. They didnt rebuild it to start with PLEASE HELP.... Forgot to add I believe its a 4L60-e trans I think...

I think if you read your owners manual, you will find that your not supposed to be towing in overdrive at all. Your supposed to shut the overdrive off whenever towing.

There is no overdrive button although there is to Ds on the gear placement? Also I didnt realize that a small trailor would cause this much of a problem go figure.. Just my luck.. So can you answer my question?

I did, The answer is you need to take it out of overdrive when towing. You select "3" instead of "D".

Thanks Hammer but I think he has decided to replace the casing and valve body...I will remember this when I get the truck back.. So by me not putting it in 3 did I burn something up? Glad its under warranty... I towed the trailor less than 25 miles

Yes, they overheat when towing in overdrive. I'm not so sure you even have a problem now if it's driving and shifting normal when not towing.

I just drove it.. It does fine when its cold but after about 10 miles I can stop and it will shift through but overdrive dosent kick in until about 60 or 65 mph.. Before it was doing it around 50 or 55 mph.. Also on the truck it would be the second D I guess thats third...I didnt know this would become an issue its one thing after another with this trans... When he fixes it this time I will know for sure to put it in the 2nd D for towing... I am not telling him I didnt to start with he may void his warranty I dont need that...

Hammer got truck back last night.. Everything seems good shifts alot better and trans has all new updates in it... Any last words before I hook my trailor back up? The trans guy told me for the load I was towing it would not hurt if I didnt turn the OD off... I want to be safe rather than sorry....

I guess that's fine if he's the one guaranteeing the transmission.

There are no downloads because it's copyrighted information but if you do a Google search, there are places that sell the manuals themselves.
