Why is there a hole in my fluid pump? It appears to be manufactured with it and has a nylon or phenolic surface behind the hole. Is this an overpressure valve?

I stopped after driving 60 miles and fluid started coming from the torque converter cover plate area. I was told to replace my front seal, and when I got to the pump area I found a hole in the top of the unit. Was my transmission overfull and it ran out the over pressure hole? was there nothing wrong with the seal?

ew; Should have the pressures checked. That 'hole' is a relief hole; If overpressure, the fluid will come out. Sounds like a pump problem.
