I have a 1989 Ford Ranger with a 2.9 V6 4x4 with a 5 speed (4 speed W/OD ) Transmission. It's the transmission with the pan on the bottom of the transmission, It started making a grinding noise on my way home one day, it has since gotten to the point when you let the clutch out it kills the engine. Before it had gotten this bad I pulled the pan off and checked all the gears, I even had it running while looking at them and they all looked alright, I fillid it back up with gear oil and it didn't make any difference. I can still manage to pull the truck without the rear wheels locking up, I have shifted the transfer case in and out of 4 Hi- 4Lo-and 2Hi and id still won't do anything different. Anyone have any ideas? The truck isn't worth putting much money in other then it is a 4WD and is nice to have in the winter.
