73 chev loosing fluid	Sign In

I have a 73 Chev Laguna (Malibu) that has a 350 engine with a turbo 350 . The car hasn't been driven regulary for 17 years . I do keep it running and from time to time I drive it for a week or so every now and then . Well ever since I have been storing ot it always loose it's tranny fluid. Seems the leak is at the seal for the shifter post . The one that the shifter hooks too . Then when I would drive it I got some white smoke under the car where it was hitting the exhaust .Any ideas besides a bad seal ?

I'm a little confused on what your question is.

I'm getting you have a leak, know where the leak is at and see where the leak is hitting the exhaust? So I'm not really sure what you are looking for.

If you're not positive it's a selector shaft seal. The best thing to do would be clean the oily area the best you can, drive it a little bit and then recheck the spot to confirm the leak......

My grandpa use to have one of those. It's not tan with white top is it?

Sorry it's not tan with a white top . I guess what I am asking is the fluid comes out of the shaft area when sitting and sometimes bloes out the dipstick tube .

Well the seal would need to be replaced to fix that leak. As far as the oil coming out the dipstick tube, you may want to check your vent to make sure it isn't plugged.
