Hello, I have the following car: -Opel/Vauxhall Astra J - 1.6L Petrol - -engine: A16XER/85kw/115hp -transmission: 6T40-MH8 GEN. 3 -vin: W0LPD6ED1BG008280 The car refuses to move forward, only goes back in reverse smooth, only feel a small, small, bunk in the seat when I shift through gears. When in D, the front of the car rise a little but little bit barely noticeable but won't go forward. I have gone to a junkyard and I've found the exactly same car as mine as described before: -Opel/Vauxhall Astra J - 1.6L Petrol - -engine: A16XER/85kw/115hp -vin: W0LPC5DD3DG096590 !! but this has an 6T30-MH9 GEN. 3 transmission on it. -Do you think it will work plug and play on my car as it is the same car that I've got it from? Junkyard guy has no knowledge about it. From what I've search on google they share the same TEHCM (as it's GENERATION3 written on the back of the trans). Should I first try to clean the valve body and solenoids on mine? My transmission has no error codes at all, scanned with 3 tools. From what I get if I put the 6T30 on my car it may need programming. -Wondering if I may put the 6T30 up on the car with the TEHCM from mine (6T40). I have dropped 5L of oil at cold temp from my trans, it has a coffe look and it stains the paper hard. What y'all advise me to do. ?

Hi, Site has a specialist (gsferro) here to chime in when he can. Know it's full holiday time for the US also, things and repair slow or quit for a week?? IDK this from a go cart but symptoms are a lot like stuck brakes! May or may not be trans issues at all?? Drum style (if so I don't know how done for these) but could be disc if doubled as parking brake can stick hard but go backwards not forwards like it chained to pole. I just ask if this car will plain roll, engine off in neutral pushing it? If not engine fighting will feel like that may also have busted mounts. Check - it's not always trans at all or am misreading/misunderstanding what it's doing to you, Tom

Hi, thanks for checking in. I'm from Romania, Europe haha. I'm not in a hurry with this. The car runs perfect but only backwards, in R-reverse. I can move it freely by hand while in neutral. Just asking everyone around that is willing to help with this matter. In my country they've charged me the price of the car to rebuild this (4000eur) and is not worth it. So I decided to buy a junkyard transmission, I bought it from the same car as mine but it seems like it's an different model even tho both cars are entirely the same. The thing is that I want to know if I can use it because it's hell of a job to drop it and put it back in. Many thanks to everyone !

Even if it is possible to swap them, which I don't know at all, at the very least the TCM is programmed to the other transmission. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Just because the hardware may be the same doesn't mean they are programmed the same.

Yikes on costs! OK unsure if or which one belongs in it now too? Hope the car's serial number also called VIN if you see it thru windshield that one should tell what, where made with what driveline items precisely. I couldn't guess if same is/was used on other vehicles also. It rolls free so forget a brake issue. IDK for your country what tricks make things required or not if programming hope you have original info on this car it's going to matter, Tom

Hello, I wouldn't start swapping units, if the ratios are different you going to get codes. I had a few Gen2 6T40 with no forward and the TCM was the problem. The ^t40's have an on/off solenoid, if the solenoid becomes mechanically clogged car will have no forward, i would say that or a leaking 1-2-3-4 clutch piston. Gary

Hello, Ohms are good, if it's clicking good may be ok, when i check other solenoids, i blow air(not much psi) into the snout and apply the solenoid to see if it can hold the pressure,

I have finally managed to put the solenoids from the T30 to my broken T40. I have put new oil in it - Dexron 6 Now when I shift in Drive and I slowly release the brake pedal the car won't move, but it will move when pressing the gas pedal. Everything good. When shifting from P-N-D to R no matter what sequence the car makes a bunk and moves back and forth a little. but when slowly releasing the brake it starts moving in reverse without helping with the gas pedal. Many many thanks to everyone and especially to Gary for helping out !

So, for anyone wondering: I have replaced 6T40-2011 Gen1 Solenoids with Gen2 solenoids from the 6T30 -2012. Here is the result - First: I got the car to move forward, backwards, park/neutral working. Car was indeed going thru the all gears 1-2-3-4-5-6 but with harsh shifting and kicking me in the seat - error codes all over the place but no MIL on. (car will shift at 2500/3000rpm). -Second: I have tried to swap the whole assembly gen2valvebody+gen2solenoids to my gen1tcm and gen1transmission. They are indeed not interchangeable. The car was acting like in gear while she was in Park or Neutral. - and she was not moving forward/backwards - no torque. -Last and definitive attempt: I have removed the valves from my orginal Gen1 valve body and cleaned them - lots of black burnt oil came out from valve channels even tho i have cleaned it from outside. I have put in the original Gen1 solenoids the car had when it came with no forward/only reverse. I left the 1-2-3-4 solenoid on Gen2 + shift solenoid that is the same on gen2/gen1 and the rest of solenoids Gen1. Now the car shifts perfectly at around 2000/2500rpm, no kicks no harsh shifting, no nothing. I only have a code P2728 when the trans gets hot (95*C) but i think that is because the 1-2-3-4 solenoid is gen2 and not gen1. So for anyone searching and wondering this was my journey with the 6t40 trans and compatibility issues with 6t30. I would advise you to work on your transmission at home only if you have the information and you do the research properly and you have held a wrench in your hands before. Thanks to everyone that helped especially to Gary.
