? Linkage if external should be checked or take a peek where you removed the shifter for anything obvious. Where I live there are so few STD trans vehicles there's no way I would know much more. New clutch 6 months ago alone probably not the problem but letting a trans hang by input shaft till snugged up can cause assorted troubles just not usually this late? T

If you can't get the transmission out of second with the engine shut off, you'll be pulling the transmission apart or sticking another in. The rubber plugs on top of the transmissions on those get hard and shrink with age. The transmission fluid gets slung out and eventually the transmission seizes up. Check the fluid level in the transmission. If it is low, drain the fluid and see if it grey with metal. If so, don't waste your time with trying to fix it. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
