2013 Corolla Gear Issues

Hello guys, my 2013 Toyota Corolla Le automatic recently encountered an issue. It has about 110,000 miles on it. I suspect that it has something to do with the transmission. I never had any problems with it until today. I was backing out of my driveway and when I attempted to put it into drive it wouldn't shift (if that's the correct terminology). I noticed that the gear selector wasn't matching the gear indicator on the dash. For example, if I selected neutral on the shifter I would get 2 on the indicator. Almost as if all the gears were mixed up. When I put it on park nothing would appear. I can also only start the car in neutral. I think its clear that there is an issue with the transmission but I would like to have an idea of what in particular it could be. I plan to take it to a transmission shop but don't want to ger ripped off. Also would it worth get fixing? Thank you!! Info: Toyota Corolla 2013 Le Automatic Transmission, 1.8 liter 4 cylinder, around 110,000 miles

Site has a great trans expert so also wait for him: For now with that (just went thru one - other vehicle) description have a helper shift it inside while you watch what moves under-hood. Is there something totally obviously wrong with that? Recent anything that might need that moved for another reason and put back. IMO too new in just years for this to have rusted there they really don't that I see. Just look as said it might be obvious, T

It sounds to me like the bushing broke in the shift cable. Any competent general repair shop should be able to check that out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for the replies guys! Took it to a transmission shop and the mechanic said the transmission was shot, not much of an explanation. Decided to take it for a look over to a regular mechanic and he said the transmission was fine and that there was only an issue with the shifter. Left it with him and hoping he's correct. Thank you!

Not all of them but there are a lot of bad tranny shops out there. Definitely get a second opinion and stay away from that shop.

Good move. A regular mechanic should be able to fix this and or say if trans is bad. ? You managed to drive it there and the trans only place. I'm not seeing it move in person but a tech will look and find at least the indicator issue blown trans or not (???) it would point at the position requested not the issue you have would have to be first, T
