Hello All: I bought a 2012 Ford Escape 2.5L FWD 4cyl automatic (now has 40,500 miles on it) a few years ago and have been happy with it overall. Unfortunately, something strange has been happening over the last few months. Good to point out that I changemy oil every 5000 miles or so (synthetic blend usually) and had a moderate fender bender that caused me to need a new radiator and body work. No problems with overheating ever either.
The already pitiful acceleration on it is even worse. For example. If I were to drive from a dead stop up to 40mph with comfortable acceleration (typical traffic) I used to rarely ever get above 2500 rpm. Now, that value is closer to 3000 rpm. I thought perhaps it was an air filter issue or something impeding the wheels/brakes but I'm not so sure as I replaced the filters and once I'm up to speed I get only slightly less fuel efficiency with the engine running at the same rpm's as before (~ 1600 at 40 mph and 2000 rpm at 65mph)
Once I'm up to speed and want to accelerate, there is the slightest of hesitations before the acceleration meter shows I'm revving (I'm talking less than a 1/10th of a second) then the car accelerates normally. Throughout all of this, the Escape has this barely noticeable shaking, from parked and idle all the way up to 80mph.
Second to last, of course all cars need a bit of time to warm up when it's colder outside, but even after a few minutes of moderate driving the car jumps ever so slightly from 1st to second gears. When I say ever so slightly, I mean unless it's your daily car you may not notice it.
Finally, when I take my foot off the accelerator at low speeds when the car isn't extremely warm yet, an area roughly 2-2.5 ft in front of my knees makes a strange sound. It's only heard at lower speeds and is much more pronounced when the car is not warm yet. The best way I can describe it is like earlier times when boys would a baseball card in the spokes of their bicycles.

Either or: You were in an accident so anything possible if enough to break the radiator. Should have about 6 months for unforeseen damage AFTER the fix and this may apply.
2012 vehicle: Warranty still in effect? Ins and warranty will probably fight each other, let them.
BTW - not many or all vehicles need a "warm up" time to behave. If excessively cold say below 10F a couple minutes. Just don't be aggressive with a cold vehicle. If iced up/snow all over it by the time they are cleared off you are good to go if you can see and road is OK,
