I have a 2012 Honda Crosstour. V6 with 190k miles. The car has a blinking D (drive) light, but only comes on when I’m on the highway. I have taken it to two mechanics who have reported the same thing: a P0741 code. The car has continued to drive normal (ig, no obvious signs that there’s a problem). I have driven it around for a couple of days making sure to keep the car below 40mph and the D light does not blink. My question is, since the blinking light only comes on after I’ve reached the last gear would I be able to drive the car below 40 without causing further damage? Or does this need to get fixed immediately, even though I’d be able to keep the car below 40 mph? I currently can’t afford the financial hit. I’ve been quoted around $3500 to have it fixed.

We have a trns expert (gsferarro) that will be along eventually. It sounds like a problem with the torque converter or the TCC solenoid. Do you have an overdrive switch you can shut off or pull it back to 3rd gear? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hello, P0741 means the torque converter can no longer fully lock-up. Converter can be applied as early as 3rd gear. I would have it fixed sooner than later, a slipping converter can generate a lot of heat in the trans. Eventually the converter clutch may come apart and clogg your filter. This is a common issue with these honda's 3500 is actually a fair price for this just to let you know. Gary
