My plan is to rebuild a 200 R4 to swap into my 1970 Avanti. As they are getting harder to find, I picked one up at a local repair shop. It had come out of a '84 Cadillac and I don't know what was wrong with it when it was pulled. I've ordered a rebuild kit for it and have the manual. Are there any particular items to pay attention to during the tear down? What are the more common failure modes of this transmission? The splines of the stator shaft are in good condition (I had read about checking this). thanks, Mike Sal

Hello, Stator is a very common issue, I would change the low sprag in the rear planet. Make sure the planetary gears do rock side to side.(sitting here thinking, its been awhile lol). Make sure the direct drum(the one that the band rides on) does not have ring grooves from the 3 sealing rings on the center support. You may need a special tool to get the reverse housing/piston out(do you have one?) thats all i can think of right now, but im still thinking. Gary
