Gday - I recently purchased a 2006 Honda accord 4cyl. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the transmission wouldn't engage when the car was cold. It was getting a bit worse until yesterday when it was potentially dangerous until it heated up. I ran the car for about 40 minutes and checked the fluid which showed it was very low so this morning i went down to the local repco and they sold me a litre which i put in. After about 3 kilometers it got very much worse - I barely got the kids to school and back. I noted that if i turned off the engine and restarted the car the gears would engage until i came to a stop again and then wouldnt engage so turn off - restart etc. I phoned a few transmission mechanics that tell me it sounds like a blocked filter or some such and that it will require a full rebuild and im looking at 3.5 to 5 thousand bucks - WTF to that. Any help would be useful. PS I also noticed slipping when going up hills.

Hello, The problem you are having is your filter is clogging up, very common on Honda's. The converter is probably coming apart and all the Debris is clogging the filter. When you shut the car off, the filter will backflow and the debris will come out, when you start the car and fluid flowing through the filter again will clogg up again and the car will stop moving. Not much can be done other than an overhaul
