2005 Tahoe shifting trouble Sign In

I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe 2WD, with 200k miles.
A year ago it developed a transmission shudder at around 50 mph. A local shop wanted $500 to rebuild the torque converter. I read about Shudder Fixx, added it, and the shudder stopped and has been fine for a year.

Recently it has developed trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd. I can get the rpm's high and let off the gas
and it will shift into 2nd. It shifts into 3rd just fine but never shifts to 4th gear. And it throws the P0752 code, solenoid "A" stuck on. I took it back to the shop mentioned above. They charged me $200 to replace both shift solenoids, fluid and filter. They said fluid looked clean. But when they were done the problem was unchanged. The engine light was gone but reappeared the next day. They say it may be the "bands" and want $1000 to do a transmission "repair". They say if that doesn't fix it a $2000 transmission "rebuild" may be needed.

Anyone have any advice here? This is starting to add up to real money.

200k is up there in miles... Not surprised that the trans is wearing out. Is this a transmission shop? If not, I would take it to a shop that specializes in transmission work. Assuming that it is - If it were up to me, I'd get it rebuilt and get a new tc. I wouldnt bother having any adjustments made to the bands, as Im sure the frictions are worn on bands and clutch packs. The lockup clutch is probably worn too, since it was shuddering before adding the friction modifier. The factory makes the transmission to operate with the specified fluid, I dont like adding a FM to the fluid. <- DISCLAIMER: These are just my opinions, Im not a trans tech. One of the veterans here may have something different to say.

There is no band adjustment on that trans. There is just one band actuated by the servo. I'd let a real trans shop look at this, but they are likely to tell you its overhaul time. With 200k on it, I'd say you got your money's worth out of that trans. Many of these barely got half that. One thing I've noticed is when it is hard to get the 1-2 upshift and then it shifts it hard, thats a good indicator of not only excessive clearances in the 1-2 clutch packs but possibly an accumulator spring going downhill. Get a TransGo P1870 fix kit installed when it gets overhauled. If you decide to do the R&R yourself you have to make sure the fluid cooler gets completely cleaned or some residue will kill the new trans.

check engine light is on - what are the codes ?

I second the idea - get a professional transmission evaluation, something is not kosher with their explanation
