2004 Taurus transmission problem ? Sign In

transmission does not engage with Engine (3.0L DOHC) at all. Car was running, going up a hill, then no connection to tranny. engine runs fine.
tranny will not engage with engine at all now; At D(3rd), D2(2nd) 1(Lo) and Reverse, engine runs, but NO CONNECT with tranny. Fluid level OK, etc.
Could a bad solenoid (tranny has Electronic control) within tranny cause the torque Converter to fail, etc???
What does the Electronic Pressure control Solenoid do? What does the Toque Converter Clutch Solenoid do? I ohm out pins going into tranny, to
check solenoid primaries: they seem to be about 16ohms (I do not have exact pinouts). Each solenoid seems OK, but there are 5 solenoids, but i can only meas. 16 ohms at 4 places. Maybe one solenoid bad, I need to double check. Could a solenoid gone bad cause above problem?

Are the CV axles in good shape? Have you inspected the shifter linkage to be sure it moves and is connected? Can you push the vehicle in park?

CV joints look good. With DS tire off the ground, PS tire on ground, in park, DS wheel does not spin. When in D, D2, Lo and R, Driver side tire can be spun manually(by hand).
Lift BOTH tires off ground. Start car. Put in D. Looks like tires want to turn, but they still do not, even with no load(both tires are in air). With car in Park,
both tires can be spun manually. Spin DS wheel manually, PS wheel spins. Spin PS wheel, DS wheel spins.
Any other ideas that may help me prove this is indeed a tranny problem?
maybe fluid is not getting up into torque converter??

Looks like the next step is to do a line pressure check.

There are two pressure taps on top of the transmission that you can screw a pressure gauge into. One is for line pressure and the other is electronic pressure control pressure. You'll have to monitor both of those pressure ports to see what is going on.

thx much for the help. found a good garage; they
can check pressure / exercise solenoids , etc. for a small fee.
