I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLS with automatic transmission. When it shifts to what seems to be 5th or 6th gear at 45 mph, the car shakes or rumbles a little as if it were driving over small ridges in the road. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

This is commonly referred to as torque converter shudder. You can either drain all the fluid from the torque converter and cooler lines, clean the converter and cooler and lines, or get a bottle of anti shudder additive for the transmission. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
