2002 Ford Escape Transmission leak Sign In

The transmission on my 2002 Ford Escape is leaking coolant in three places. The vehicle overheated and blew out he radiator. Replaced the radiator but was still overheating, replaced the thermostat but it still overheated when I found the water pump belt missing. The last time it overheated the transmission began leaking. Have been told the rear main seal, the side pan gasket and the lower pan gasket need to be replaced. How difficult is it to remove the transmission to replace these seals?

The transmission and rear main do not have coolant running inside them. Who diagnosed your leak? Maybe you should take it somewhere else.

Hello,
As far as your transmission goes, this is a front wheel /awd trans. This is extremely hard to come out, i wouldnt attempt, it takes my guys almost aday to pull out the trans. As far as the leak goes the rear main seal is part of the engine, the transmission has a side pan that could leak, however there is no bottom pan only a side pan. transmission is called a CD4E.
