2001 Tahoe Transmission Woes

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L, 4WD, Tow Package. It has 143,000 miles. The problem I'm having is when you take off, in Drive, there is a feeling of ignition mis-fire but I have checked all plugs and wires and they are all good. The last time I had the "code" dumped, don't recall the number but it mentioned the park/neutral switch. Sometimes it runs fine without any of the hesitations. Other times it's very annoying. I tried taking off in D3 and it still happens some. I tried it in D2 (next to the lowest gear) and the hesitation or mis-fire never occurs. Several thousand miles ago, I did have the Park/Neutral switch replaced because I was having much trouble getting it to even come out of Park. Any thoughts? Or am I looking at a transmission rebuild. I really don't want to have to trade vehicles. I still think it's a good one (except for this little glitch). HDB

Have codes checked again, it could be slippin....check the fluid for color and smell, fluid change is recommended about every 60,000 miles. Btw if the codes read that why didn't you replace the switch at that time? Some things can't be put off, it could cost you alot later.

I have changed the fluid and filter in past 1000 miles. It was dark like used motor oil (not red), but did not smell burnt. Changed it anyway. At the time the code was read, the condition could not be duplicated by either the mechanic or myself driving. I decided to change the fluid and filter anyway though, thinking that that might solve the problem. That was about 500 miles ago. It went several miles without returning, but it's back now. Is it possible for the P/N switch to be that intermittent? HDB

That might be the case....have you ever considered a trans flush...one from a shop, even with a filter change you still have about 8 quarts or more in the torque converter that never got drained....some have a drain bolt on the tc, on yours I don't know. Im thinking if you changed the fluid and the problem went away for a while it could be that some trash might have got in the valve body.....Either way you go it will cost a lot less than another transmission.

Pardon my jumping in here; The trouble codes would be very helpful. Is the check engine or service engine soon lamp illuminated? Have the code(s) retrieved and post them here. A faulty TPS, which will very seldom set a code, can cause a hesitation and feel like a misfire. A plugged fuel filter can also cause a hesitation and stumble.
These engines are very 'touchy' when it comes to fuel pressure and can cause all kinds of symptoms.
