Search Auto Parts Search 2001 Honda Accord transmission Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Transmission Problems paul94602 New User Oct 15, 2012, 10:39 AM Post #1 of 4 (2219 views) 2001 Honda Accord transmission Sign In the miles are getting up there so a tran problem is not unexpected.. however, one trip to the shop , they claim fixed, but still the same problem when put in drive, the transmission slips .. ok, so this is not uncommon however, turn the engine off and restart and put in Drive and no problems .. until you start cold again .. for the last three days it has not even required the turn off, turn on change .. it just works fine.. The dealer is vague .. will credit what we paid against more repairs, but still another couple of grand.. and I am not sure they know what the problem is?? anyone have this problem before? If truely slipping as partially going along with higher RPMs than normal for the speed the fluid would near certainly be discolored and probably smell burnt as a basic wear out sign. Still can look OK and be worn out. Most that are actually slipping are not going to last much longer. If not a trans specialty shop they might not have full diagnostic ability except for the obvious. If it just didn't do it a second time no matter what your shop did how would they know so easily. Shoot - electronic controls could be read but can't think of any that could cause real slipping. How long time and miles do transmissions last? Who know as I've seen them go on for the life of the cars or be about a routine at "X" # of miles for some. Heat or towing does shorten life as well as hard driving habits. Yup - in several over the decades of my own some just quit with no notice and some would slip or something noisy. Some have gone on way beyond what I would expect and it scares me too. Mechanic or not who wants those surprises. If only once cold in park try starting the car in neutral and give it a minute.
