2000 Hyundai Elantra Sign In

Hi I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra with about 113000 miles on it. Lately when I get up around 60mph if I accelerate to hard/fast the RPMs rev up and the whole car has a slight jolt. What’s going on? Any advice? Trying to make this car last through my last year of college!!

Hi Danny,

You didn't say auto or standard but I'm guessing automatic. I'm not a trans tech but I't was part of my schooling a long time ago.

If Automatic - make sure it's full of fluid. Frequently they are checked while engine idles in usually Park but some cars Neutral. The dipstick for it will say or the owner's manual. Bring some white paper with you, put a drop on the paper. It should be a red color - if brown or dark brown you probably need an overhaul - sorry! If low you need to find out why and fix that.

If Standard - clutch may be slipping. If so there is nothing likely but needing a new clutch.

Either way don't wait. Get some local help. You said you were in college and if you are away from home the guarantee of a chain place might be a prudent choice. I tend to like the local shops but if you are way away from home that will be a big problem if the repair fails.

I hope this is just some cheap and easy problem but most are not! Get ready for the expense, T

its just the delay of shift because when you lay down tough on the acc when you are driving the car drops down a gear and uses the rpms to boost you so its common on most vehicles nothing major in my opinion
