2000 Chevy Blazer s10 Transmission/Rear End Sign In

Hello,

We have a 2000 Blazer S10 that we had to just have the rear end replaced. It was not cheap to have that done. Well it was drove after the fix for about a week and now the transmission is messing up. It won't do anything when put into reverse. It is also having problems when put into first gear, it revs up real high, up to about 4-5 rpm before switching into 2nd. The other gears appear ok but we parked it right after we noticed the problem.
Questions are:
1. Could a rear end collision have done the rear end damage resulting in the present transmission problem?

2. Could the replacement of the rear end have caused the transmission damage? We did business with a good shop that we have never had problems with but maybe something was done incorrectly.

We are having major financial issues right now and I am having to have a surgery so this is the last thing we needed. The cost of the rear end was huge now I am hoping that someone can give me advise that will brighten my day. Any suggestions are soooo greatly appreciated.Crazy

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems, hopefully things get better...

As far as the transmission goes. Those are 2 separate areas and you don't really disturb anything on one working on the other...

It sounds like it is just one of those unfortunate coincidences plus the fact you've worked with this shop in the past without any prior incidents.
Have you got a quote from them?
While they didn't cause the problem, I know the shop I'm at when something like this happens they try to shave the est as low as possible just for the fact, they're a good customer, they just spent $xxxx.xx and now this happened...

You did mention something about a rear end collision? I will say while not impossible the collision would've had to have been pretty severe to cause internal damage with no external evidence and that also wouldn't of been the shops fault for missing.......

Thanks for your reply. The rear end collision was pretty hard. The whole front end of the mustang that hit me was pretty bad. The car sorta went a little under the rear bumper. I did have to have the bumper replaced also. As far as the shop that we have worked with, I really think they do a good job. I have yet to get an estimate as it will be awhile with everything going on. I thought maybe if the collision caused something I could contact the insurance agent because I had asked if they needed to look underneath the vehicle when the accident happened and they told me there was no need. How do the teeth in the rear end gears get damaged? Is it normal wear and tear for the teeth to be broken? We never have gone 4 wheeling in it nor hit any major pot holes or anything. I was just wondering how, lol

My two cents: It's collision damage - enough to apparently wipe out the rear differential. IMO that's a nasty hit. Drive shaft to differential goes to transmission so with a collision anything is possible as the shaft could have driven hard into trans so who knows what damage might have happened?

It's collision damage so the book it open. Insurance should allow for "unseen" damage for X amount of time,
