1999 Dodge Ram 1599 5.9L 2wd Sign In

Just installed a rebuilt transmission and new torque converter, but the transmission is not pumping the fluid, did I need to fill the T/C before installing it into the tranny. It had a little fluid in it so I did not add any, but the transmission is not pumping the fluid through the system.

Depending on the tranny you have, w/ the converter, it will hold between 11 & 16 qts of ATF.

So you need to get close before it's going to start working...........

I did not fill the converter before installing it in the Transmission, But I filled the transmission after installing. However it will not pump the fluid.

You have to continue to fill the transmission after starting the engine. It only holds a couple of quarts in te pan and that will get pumped out almost immediately so you have to keep checking and adding until it reads full.

The dipstick shows that it is full, while running, but after turning off the engine, I pulled the rear transmission line and there was no fluid in the line. so I stsrted the engine and nothing was pumping through the line. I am stasrting to think that I should have filled the torque converter before installing it in the transmission. What do you think?

No, that's not the problem. You may have broken something or assembled it incorrectly. The converter will fill on it's own.

Did the torque converter get set right? Should slide/click in twice while rotating it into place.
