1996 Chevy s-10 4wd problem

Hello I have a 1996 Chevy s-10 Blazer. Lately it has begun to switch (on it's own no button pushed) from 2wd into 4 hi. Then pushing the 2 hi button to switch it back it sounds as if the front hubs begin to disengage and do not fully disengage until after a series of very loud clunks. Could this be as simple as a faulty Vac actuator? not getting enough vac pressure and thus getting stuck in between 4 hi and 2 hi? Any advice?
