1993 Sentra 1.6 Again

Hi Loren et all
Now that I have the Sentra running a smooth as crap thru a goose, (In the end, it wuz a bad injector) I wuz thinking to change the tranny filter and fluid when I do my Jeep tranny. According the crappy haynes manual there is no filter in that tranny, it just says to remove the drain plug and change the fliuid every 30K miles, we are about 60K overdue on that. The book says to do it HOT, besides getting burned, What do I need to watch for?????

Bill; You are a busy man!  Most Chrysler/Jeep products do have filters. Some, are spin on. My Dodge truck has two. The normal type filter and a spin on that you must remove the pan to get to. Let me know year/make/model/engine size and hopefully, which transmission. Does it have O/D? PRNDLL1? PRNDDL? (the first D will have a circle around it if it has O/D) ect.
OH, just thought of another thing....get rid of the Hayne's manual. IMO, they are worthless. Motors, Mitchell, and even Chilton are better.

It's a 93 Nissan Sentra with the 1.6 motor and an auto tranny, It uses dextron II fluid which I cannot find anywhere only Dex 4 which I supposed is a better fluid then II. The book says change the fluid every 30K miles, nothing about a filter tho.

Bill; You had mentioned 'your Jeep tranny'. Confused. If it calls for Dex II, then you can use DexIII/Mercon, which is cheap and can be had anywhere.

Bill; You may want to check with the dealer on that one. I'd hate to steer you wrong. ATF+4 is for Jeep/Chrysler products, but may be okay? Not sure.

We rechecked and it says to use dextron, even the dipstick has dextron printed on it. This car has a tranny pan drain plug. We were surprised to see how much fluid drained out. just under 5 qts and it was a dark reddish/orange color and did not have any burnt smell. We filled it up with new bright red dextron and now it shifts very smoothly.

Yes that would take Dextron.
