Hi , I have a 1991 Chevy S10 2.5 5speed. I just bought truck so dont know lot about it. It was being slow shift into gear. Clutch master cylinder and release cylinder were both in bad shape. Seals all twisted and dirty. So I completely replaced the whole system. New cylinders both. And the hose to fill tank and line in between the cylinders. I bled it and it seems to have built a little bit of pressure. It doesnt seem to have air in it, but if you think I should just keep bleeding it I will try that. If not do you have any other ideas. I only have maybe half the movement I need. I did pop the cover off and check that. I dont see any leakage at new hoses or lines and cylinder fill tank appears in good shape, seal looks fine. Oh yea, My old master cylinder has a check valve, but the ones that all the parts stores sell dont, is this the problem and if so what can I do? Thanks for your time and I appreciate any help I can get.

Bleeding out hydraulic clutch linkage can be a real pill and require multiple tries or some equipment to help.
What's with this "check valve" that the replacement doesn't have? Were you supposed to swap that to the replacement?

No, the check valve doesnt have anywhere it can go onto. I checked with several different stores and tried to contact manufacturer, but they have replied. The stores all have same part. I do have another truck that has a better looking master cylinder on it I guess I could try it and see if having the valve changes anything. I have another truck Im using as parts truck but figure something like that would be better new.

I'm totally guessing now but I doubt it's a check valve which suggests it could lock pressure meaning if you pushed the clutch it would just stay disengage?? Dunno? Why would they do that? It might be a fluid level warning or starter may not engage if pressure isn't detected but I thought most did that thru the clutch pedal on the inside.
If you still don't have a good feeling pedal and air is the likely suspect then check out pressure bleeders, vacuum bleeders. I literally don't recall an S-10 standard shift and know they are and were out there so no hands on experience to help with the exact model - just that many are a pill.
I sure hope it isn't a defective part! If this one is adjustable than it really shouldn't need new adjustment but might. You would have to watch as a helper pushed pedal to see if range was adequate and free-play correct once air is known out. Could the fork be bent or any surprises like that?

I had someone push clutch but only looks like a quarter inch movemnet. Im goona try bleeding it more. Cant see much of the fork, if I get into that I'll just pull the tranny out. Thanks for the help and Ill get back on here in a few days if I have any more problems.

did you bench bleed the master before installing it?
