1991 Ford Escort GT Transmission Shifting issues

I have a 1991 Ford Escort GT Auto Trans 1.8 DOHC that will go into drive but will not shift it is like it stays in one gear and that is it. Trying to trouble shoot this issue any idea where to start.

First, check to be sure the linkage is hooked up correctly. It is possible the linkage has moved and it is not going into drive, but into first gear.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
