so just the other day i was getting ready to drive over to class. the truck started up beautifully, but when i shifted (or rather tried to shift) into reverse, it ground on the way in and i had to pull extremely hard to get it to seat in gear, all this with the cluth all the way depressed. which by the way unless i hit the gas or actually pull it back up with my foot, will not go back to where it normally sits. anyway, finally when i got it into reverse and was getting ready to put it in first, it was damn near impossible to get it to move at all. i had to put almost all my weight into getting the damn thing into gear. i really only have this problem with first. granted the other gears are sticky, but first is the hardest one. i think itmight be my clutch going, but before buying a replacement for it i would like to know what else i should check first. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a clutch problem. Forcing it into gear will serve nothing except to damage the transmission also.

It's a hydraulic clutch system and it has likely started leaking and lock the brake fluid from the system and now it has air in the system. You will have to determine whether it's the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder that is leaking and replace it and then bleed the system. i suggest replacing both.

thanks, i figured it was the clutch, i just wanted confirmation before i went and bought a new one.

You're not buying a clutch. You're buying a master cylinder or a slave cylinder or both.
