I have a 1977 320i it wont go into reverse it wont shift and stall sometimes when stopping have to put in park turn off andf turn it back on to get it to shift.also loses power while driving

1977! If this is slipping while driving and fluid known to proper level it's trouble. At the age it's an open book but wouldn't be surprised if an overhaul wasn't in order,
