I've got a 2001 Hyndyai Elantra GT hatchback. 2.1 engine with 110'000 miles. FWD manual transmission.

I had to replace the clutch, pressure plate and bearing. I got the transmission dropped fine, parts replaced, but can not for the life of me get the tranny back in to where I can seat it bolt it back into place.

The issue is not lifting, I have the tools to lift it,the issue is I can't figure out how to position it in order to get the tranny back to where it needs to get. Wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks or resources.

I've was toying with seperating the bell housing from the rest of the tranny, but I'm worried I won't be able to get everything alligned again once it's horizontal. I also had the thought of lifting the whole engine but I'm not at all excited about that idea.

No you don't want to separate the bellhousing....

Most kits come with a clutch aligning tool. This is critical to the get the disc aligned correctly or it will never go in.

After that is just a matter of moving the trans in the right position and pushing it in. If you haven't done a lot of clutches, you should have a helper at the back end supporting the tranny, pushing & taking directions, you can get up by the bellhousing & engine and eyeball it to make sure it's straight & level as you try to put it in..

It also helps to line up the splines by spinning the engine over by the crank bolt.

a little trick i've learned is to use two long bolts once you have it about up in place put the long bolts in on each side of the bell housing that way it holds it in line so you can slide it on up against the motor while someone spins the crank
