Strut choice collision repair Sign In

2014 Mazda CX5 105,000 milesDaughter wrecked her car. Insurance totaled. I've decided to do repair work myself rather than look for another car. Left suspension needs to be totally replaced.Quote from original shop was going to source used OEM strut and only repair the left. Before seeing the shop quote, I was going to buy two new KYB struts and replace both myself. Before the accident, car rode fine and neither leaking. After seeing shop, I'm wondering if getting used OEM would be better.I will be replacing the left wheel, lower control arm, inner and outer tie rod, sway bar link, and strut myself.
Question: when doing an accident repair on 100K car, would you prefer to find a single OEM used replacement with similar miles or go ahead and replace both left and right with KYB?

Struts and shocks wear out, you always wanna go with new, never used. KYB now has a complete quick strut assemblies the same as Monroe. It would be best to go with the complete unit that way you get new springs bearing plates and mounts.
If you go with OE, you'll need a strut spring compressor and you would have to piece out all those individual pieces
